Sword and shield is really tiring. We played this game for warm up again today. But Ms Chan added another element to it today, which was slow motion. Our movements and our voices had to be in slow motion. And honestly, slow motion is not easy to perfect. There were times where I involuntarily moved a little fast and caught my partner off guard. Cheating a little, maybe. Hehe.
Today we focused a lot on our breathing. I'm pretty sure I have the hang of it now as Ms Chan told us to say “HA” as we exhaled. During the ten count breathings, I found it hard to exhale and inhale but again, practice makes perfect and I'm almost there. By the end of our practice session, my stomach hurt a little but I guess that's a sign that I'm doing it right.
Ms Chan had us recite a line of Life's Brief Candle each, using the breathing that we practiced so many times. She pointed out to me that I was a little tense and had to relax and not tense my shoulders. I tried again and hopefully it sounded better.
The next exercise was pretty hard. She wanted us to walk around the room. Then one person will say the first line of Life's Brief Candle. After recitation, tap a person and the person has to continue with the next line. Ms Chan found that the teamwork in this exercise was not good enough, but when we starting running, surprisingly it was smoother and our teamwork improved. Then we lined up in two lines across the room from each other. We had to run to one another while reciting one line of the poem and so on. I found this exercise fun and quite challenging cause I had to run and use the breathing method that we learnt to recite the line. Ms Chan said that we need to control our breathing no matter how our body was in motion.
Lastly, we all sat in a circle. Two people had to come out and pretend to shake hands and freeze. They looked like one of them was receiving an award or a certificate due to the formal look of their body posture. Then one person left, and Ms Chan told someone else to take the person's place and do another pose. When I went to complete Jia Yuan's pose by pretending to high five her, I was left out in the middle of the circle for quite a bit as no one knew how to complete my pose. I felt quite shy as everyone was looking at me frozen and no one knew how to complete my pose. Then Ms Chan came to my rescue and we both looked like a sculpture when she pretended to be part of my pose.
That was what we did in class today and the weekend is finally here! Can't wait to see what's in store next week :)
